Wrapped in the Dreams of Angels

I am excited to let you know that "Wrapped in the Dreams of Angels" is a newly formed organization in Dell Rapids. This group is a sub-group of "The Mother's Healing Garden".

The purpose of the organization is to provide support to people in our community and surrounding areas that are experiencing troubled times. The organization is making tie blankets to give to individuals. One side of the blanket is "Cardinal" fabric. The Cardinal is the sign that "God has blessed the day". The blanket is the representation of God's love and human love being wrapped around those that are experiencing trouble in their lives.

The organization will provide a blanket to families that have lost a child or spouse. Blankets can be purchases for $15.00 each by anyone in the community and presented to individuals that need support and prayer. For example: an individual that is fighting cancer, someone that is going through a divorce, someone that is faced with financial challenges, etc.

The key to the blanket is to remind people that they are not alone in troubled times. As a Christian Community we are here to support, talk, pray and help each other, but most important God is always there. Reasons for requesting a WDA Blanket are not discussed in order to maintain privacy. The purpose is to provide support by going directly to the person in need.

The Leighton's were the first family to be presented with a WDA Blanket.

I can not wait to tell you more on Sunday evening!

Blessings
Robin

Message from Cindy

I wanted everyone to be aware that there is a simulcast marriage conference this Saturday at Abiding Savior in Sioux Falls. It includes Beth Moore, Gary Smalley, and more. It runs from 8:30 to 3:30 Saturday and looks excellent. I know it's short notice and I haven't really even spoken with Dave about it either. For more information, www.focusonmarriage.org.

I spent some time at the school today, as school board members are taking turns being available for the kids, and for the teachers if they need a time-out. Please continue to pray for the whole community. There is much healing that needs to happen. I know God has a plan in all of this. I feel an urgent need to continue to pray for many that are hurting in a similar fashion and that this does not start a pattern. Today in the car going to the school I heard a song that was so applicable- "Going through the Motions". If you have a moment, please research that song and its lyrics. Are we just going through the motions of life? Are we doing what God intended? Are we good role models for our children? What do they see us do that then teaches them that it's ok? Are we building a safe environment for our kids this community?

Grief

As our community is dealing with grief, I thought that it would be beneficial to read a little about the grieving process.

The 5 Stages of Grief
Dr. Elisabeth Kübler, a Swiss psychiatrist, first described the Five Stages of Grief in 1969 to explain the emotions that a person dealing with grief may experience. Many people have interpreted this incorrectly, thinking that everyone experiences all five of these stages, in order. But nowhere does it say you’ll experience them all, or go from one stage to the next. Some people start with “depression” and then jump into “anger” and may never get to “acceptance.” More likely than not, if you’re experiencing a very tragic loss, you will face one or all of these emotions head-on:

1. Denial – Refusing to believe what has happened, feeling shocked. “This can’t be happening.”

2. Anger – Accusing others, such as a supreme being or friends, for what has occurred. “How dare you let this happen!”

3. Bargaining – Asking the universe or a supreme being to “cut a deal” with you. “Just let me live to see my daughter get married.”

4. Depression – Experiencing listlessness or exhaustion combined with feelings of helplessness, guilt and lack of interest in life. “I might as well give up.”

5. Acceptance – Facing the loss and moving on, returning to
setting goals in your life and focusing your energy more positively. “I’m ready to deal with this now.”

Meet the Millman's

1. Tell us about your family.

We have 2 children, Logan almost 7, Leah 4.

Jim has two younger brothers Wayne and Charlie. Wayne (27) has a son Levi who is 2. Charlie (26) works at Nordstroms. His grandmother, Ida, is who he grew up with. She is in her 80's and lives in her home in Flandreau. His Dad, Bruce, lives in Madison. His mom, Lil (Lillette), lives and works in Brookings.

Julie's parents Larry and Sue Jans are both in their early 50's. They live on a farm in Clarkfield, MN. Her dad is a farmer and her mom is a 1st grade teacher. Julie also has two younger siblings. Her brother Michael (27) is married to Amanda. He is a farmer/racecar driver with their dad and Amanda is an accountant. Karen (25), her sister, is currently working in a clinkic taking patient insurance information in Morhead, MN. She is close to being engaged.

2. Where did you grow up?

Jim grew up in Flandreau with his grandparents G.R. and Ida Millman.

Julie grew up on the family farm near Clarkfield.

3. How did you meet? How many years have you been married?

We met at SDSU. Julie worked at the front desk in Waneta Complex. Jim's good friend liked Julie. One day he noticed Julie was working so told Jim that the girl he liked was working. Jim came to the desk to "check his mail" before going to practice his baritone. He was wearing a shirt from Campus Crusade for Christ, which Julie recognized, so she asked him if he had gone on that trip...we ended up talking for over an hour. We actually both lived in that same complex the year before and were also both regular attenders of Campus Crusade, so although we are pretty sure we met before this, we don't remember eachother. We have been married over 7 years.

4.Tell us aout your jobs.

Jim has been working at Citibank for over a year and was recently the first person ever selected to be TSP without being a mentor first...you'll have to have him explain it better!!

Julie has been working at StarMark for over 5 years and is the Lead Designer. She designs kitchens mostly for Direct Buy members across the United States.

5. What is your faavorite thing about Dell Rapids?

This church. The majority of our friends in Dells come from this church...and to think, we came to the Reformed church because Dave Schuch told us how great it was one night during our bowling league (Jim and Julie were on the same league, different teams....Jim was on Dave's team)!

6.What are your favorite Bible Verses?

Jim: "My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry," James 1:19

Julie: "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:8

7: Significant dates:
a.Wedding anniversary? August 25, 2001
b. Birthdays?

Jim December 13, 1979
Julie July 25, 1979 (4months and 19 days older than Jim)
Logan February 11, 2002
Leah November 13, 2004

8. Little known fact about you?

Jim: I've preformed on the same stage as Ray Charles, on the same night!!
Julie: I was on the dance team...started dancing young..1st or 2nd grade...through my freshman year in college.

Count Your Blessings

Count you Blessings:
  • You do not have a pregnant goat in your garage!
  • You have a warm home.
  • You are loved.
  • You have food on the table.
  • You have a church family that will always be there for you.

During these hard times so many people are in need. Last night during the sub zero wind chills I saw a man at the interstate off ramp asking for food. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to help others, because it feels so much better to help than to need help.

Stay warm!

First Bible Study of 2009

Happy New Year! Let's bring on 2009.

The lesson tonight was "The Prodigal Sons" Luke 15:11-32. Notice that the title of the lesson is the Prodigal "Sons", not just the son. Both sons are lost. In the parable Jesus is comparing and contrasting two types of lostness, one symbolized by the younger son and one by the older. The younger son was lost in wastefulness and earthly greed. The older son was lost in anger, control, pride and selfishness.

Next week (January 11th) will be the last lesson from the Modern Day Parable book. We need to think about the next lessons. Tonight we discussed the following options.
  • Beth Moore series.
  • Dave Ramsey series.

Both are 10 - 12 weeks long.

Prayer requests:

  • Two of Cindy's nieces had miscarriages recently. Please keep Michelle and Jenn in your prayers.
  • Jim's brother - Wayne. He wants to be dependant on Jim and Julie. He is going through a separation/divorce at this time.
  • Pam's niece - Bambi
  • Tess -- Home study results, finalization of divorce, stress.
  • Congregation of our Church: -- Election of Elders and Deacons, Decision to high a Youth Coordinator.
  • Serving at the Banquet next Saturday
  • Frank and Audrey
  • Evelyn Sieps -- ill
  • Mike's son, Chad and his family

Blessings

Robin
